Matthew 25:13 Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
Our poodle dog, “Muffin” loves Paula; she follows her around from room to room, sits beside her in the armchair, lays at her feet, etc. She wants to be by her side at all times. Yesterday Paula had to go to with our daughter, Patricia, to another city in Costa Rica to buy some things for our upcoming Bible conference. Paula was gone from the apartment for about seven hours. During that time Muffin sat on top of the back of a chair in the living room looking out the window. She would occasionally leave the chair to get a drink of water or a bite to eat; but she would immediately run back to the chair and renew her vigil of looking for Paula’s return.
In our verse for today the word “watch” means to stay alert, to be vigilant. It also includes the idea of being motivated, of keeping one’s attention (mind) upon that which is most important.
As Muffin kept her attention on that which was most important to her (Paula’s return); we must keep our mind and attention on the return of Christ. We do not know the day nor the hour of His return; therefore, we are to watch and be ready at all times.
The reason for our constant vigil of working and watching is very important—Ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh.
I leave you with these three questions—If you knew for sure that the Lord was coming in the next fifteen minutes:
1. Who would you call?
2. What would you talk about?
3. Why are you waiting?
Reflection—Unbroken preparation is essential, for He can come at any moment.
