To Go To Jesus

Matthew 14:29 And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.
When we read of the miraculous account of Jesus walking on the water, we often think of Peter and how he began to sink when he took his eyes off of Jesus. Numerous applications, sermons, and examples can be drawn from this account.
With all of these considered, I believe it is important to emphasize the purpose of this miraculous event. Jesus told Peter to “Come,” and Peter began to go to Jesus. When Peter began to sink, he didn’t fight and try to swim in his own strength. He simply called on the Lord for deliverance.
Jesus speaking in Matthew 11:28 says, “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
When we are born again, the Holy Spirit begins working in our lives to conform us to the image of Jesus Christ. Did Peter take his eyes off of Jesus because of doubt and lack of faith? Yes. The end of the account reads in verse 32, “And when they were come into the ship, the wind ceased.”
What we know is that Peter was on a path to Jesus, and in the end, after all of the trials, he is with Jesus coming back into the boat.
Praise the Lord for God’s saving hand and drawing of the Holy Spirit for us to go to Jesus! When we take our eyes off the Saviour and begin to sink, all we have to do is call upon Him for deliverance to bring us back to Him.
Reflection—Little faith is true faith, but it is easily distracted by its surroundings.
