Matthew 1:23 Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us.
We are going to look at how God has a plan for a holy relationship with us. God is holy. He is high and lifted up. He is righteous. He is all powerful. He is all-knowing. He is everywhere at once and He is infinite. That’s Who He is! He is perfect!
There was a young girl who had a rare form of leukemia. Long story short, if she didn’t receive a bone marrow transplant after her chemotherapy, she would die. None of her family was a match until Momma found out she was pregnant. To their delight, the baby was a perfect match for a bone marrow transplant! So, when the baby was fourteen months old, they took some of her marrow and gave it to her sister, and it saved her life.
Jesus was born for the purpose of saving us! He is the One and only Saviour that can save all those who put their trust in Him.
Question: Can an infinitely holy God have a relationship with weak, sinful, and frail people like you and me? He can, because our relationship isn’t based on what we bring to the table, or on anything we’ve earned. What we can offer is a stench in His nostrils.
Here’s the point—Our relationship is based on His holiness and His righteousness. God desires a relationship with us, so He became the Man, Jesus. Jesus cleanses us of our sins and clothes us in His holiness, the holiness that only He has as God the Son.
But a holy relationship and a human relationship sounds like two different things. How can we put those two together? That’s for next time as we look at part 3.
Reflection—There was no demand for fairness when Jesus was crucified. He simply prayed the Father’s will should be done.
