The Worthy One

Revelation 5:3-4 And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon. 4 And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.
The search for a worthy one to open and read the Book was completed. They looked over Heaven, where all the wonderful saints of God lived. None found. They looked in Hell itself, where many a so-called “good and religious” person lived. None found. They searched the earth over and inspected all the citizens credentials. Scripture records that no worthy one was found anywhere mankind lived.
John was distraught. His understanding was not yet complete. He had prayed as he had been taught, “Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven.” Yet, suddenly there seemed to be a snag in the completion of God’s program. He was heart-broken and wept much.
John loved the Lord Jesus, and he had a great passion for Truth and Righteousness. He had looked forward to the day when evil would be put down, and Jesus would reign. But now it seemed as though sin and Satan would go on forever.
Surely, John’s heart went to great joy at the words of the Elder. Revelation 5:5 And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof. God’s Word does have a way of restoring our hope!
Why did God put John through this? Sometimes in our lives, there are big lessons in delayed answers and delayed leadings. We, too, have been heart-broken and distraught waiting for understanding. Delays are used to eliminate other options, other possibilities, other outcomes.
Reflection—Some idols need to be crushed. My understanding needs more enlightening.
