The Sound of Silence
For Women By Women

2 Chronicles 20:17 Ye shall not need to fight in this battle: set yourselves, stand ye still, and see the salvation of the LORD with you….
When was the last time we were quiet enough to hear the chirp of a bird, the croak of a frog, the snap of a twig beneath the feet of wildlife foraging in the woods, or the movement of the leaves upon the trees? It is so easy for our hurried lifestyles to rob us of the everyday sounds of God at work. The blessed simple reminders that God takes care of all creation, including us, His children.
Psalm 46:10 Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.
But the sound of our busyness overpowers His subtle messages which could be heard in nature if we would – be still.
How long has it been since we were quiet enough to stand still and wait upon the Lord to rescue us from a battle of life? Often, instead of being still, we are fighting with all our might to conquer a battle that God never intended to be ours. He yet does the same for us, as He did for Judah in 2 Chronicles 20:17. Perhaps the answer to our question, “Why isn’t God doing anything?” is because we are not standing still so He can.
The sound of silence can bring clear direction. Naomi gave Ruth a piece of advice that would be good for us to practice in our lives. Ruth 3:18 Then said she, Sit still, my daughter, until thou know how the matter will fall…. God’s timetable is usually not our’s, making it ever more important for us to sit still and wait upon God, Who knows the conclusion of all matters.
Reflection—The sound of silence can speak loudly to our souls – but only if we would be still.
