The Name Above Every Name

John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Our society almost worships its heroes. Little wonder then, that athletes delight in seeing their names become household words, that stage and screen personalities strive for as much publicity as possible, and that business tycoons have their names inscribed on products and buildings. Even Christians get caught up in exalting prominent preachers and missionaries that are greatly used of the Lord. But there is a problem with all of this – it elevates man and not God.
How unlike John the Baptist! Multitudes attended his ministry in the wilderness of Judea, and his fame spread throughout the country surrounding the Jordan. Yet he was content to say, “I am just a voice.” Confronted by the crowd, John faithfully pointed to Christ, saying, “He must increase, but I must decrease.”
May we also exalt the name of Jesus, the One Whom God has highly exalted. His name is the name to remember. The name of Jesus is a curse word to the unsaved; but to the saved, His name is above every name.
Reflection—John wanted them to remember Jesus, not John the Baptist.
