Matthew 14:33 Then they that were in the ship came and worshipped him, saying, Of a truth thou art the Son of God.
All across our nation different types of storms take place. Some parts experience hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, ice, snow, or fires.
In Matthew 14, the disciples went through a storm and experienced a miracle when Jesus walked on the water to them and calmed the storm. After this experience, they made this statement in verse thirty-three — “Of a truth thou art the Son of God.”
The miracle of the feeding of the five thousand happened before this miracle of Jesus walking on the water. However, only after the trial, did they acknowledge Jesus as God. When we go through trials, we see God in a deeper way. Job was a friend of the Lord, yet he experienced countless difficulties. Some perspectives only come through storms.
God called two of my children home to Heaven: a daughter at nineteen weeks and a son full-term in childbirth. As challenging as these times were, I would not trade the closeness and moments with God I experienced during these times. Common passages such as Psalm 23 and Isaiah 53 took on new meanings and depth.
Isaiah 53:3 says of Jesus, “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.”
Our Saviour was well-acquainted with suffering. His trials were not because of sin, and He understands hardships. How comforting to know He has gone before us and offers hope, healing, and Heaven. Let us cleave to Him in storms and grow closer to Him each time we experience a trial so that we like the disciples can declare God’s power.
Reflection—Some perspectives only come through storms.
