Socialism Is Not New

Genesis 47:13 And there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and all the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.
There is a fundamental shift in our country that defies logic. More of our young adults are starting to lean to a socialistic view of economics and the politics necessary to replace capitalism. When presented with the fact that it has never worked in the past, they argue it has never been done right. But in Genesis we find that this system is not new and has never worked because of the defining characteristics of mankind—covetousness.
The crisis of famine and the fear surrounding it drove the people to buy grain from Pharoah with money, then cattle, and eventually their land and lives. Finally, they become slaves, living where they were told to live, working in jobs assigned to them.
When the government controls where you live, where you work, and where you can go, you are not free, you are a modern-day slave. Communism and socialism are systems where the state owns the means of production and promises equal distribution of the fruits of labor based on need. The only way this system can survive is by force and results in totalitarianism. Pharoah enforced the system, the people became slaves, class favorites like priests were exempt, and the Jews were persecuted.
Satan’s goal is to make all men slaves. Slaves to sin, self, and to Satan himself and his kingdom. He uses the promise of equality, regardless of effort. All you have to do is submit to the authority of the State, which says, “Trust me to know what is best for the good of all, at the expense of the individual.”
John 8:36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.
Reflection—The choice is for the individual to make. Which kingdom will you choose?
