Shall Not Prosper

2 Chronicles 13:12 And, behold, God himself is with us for our captain, and his priests with sounding trumpets to cry alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against the LORD God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.
The topic of prosperity seems to come up in daily conversations. People are working, going to school, and investing countless hours trying to improve in order to prosper. Unfortunately, the majority of the world is living their lives with little to no recognition of the Lord Jesus. In fact, the world system is contrary to the way of God and His Word.
In 2 Chronicles 13, the children of Israel are warned not to fight against the Lord because they will not prosper. Psalm one tells us that a man who avoids the wicked councels and influences of this world and delights himself in the law of the Lord will prosper. Psalm 1:3 says, “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.”
The account in 2nd Chronicles 13 goes on to say how Israel prevailed.
- 2 Chronicles 13:18 Thus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon the LORD God of their fathers.
Reflection—May we live each day to rely upon the Lord and not fight against what God has instructed and commanded us to do so we may prosper in Him.
