Safety In His Presence

Psalm 4:8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.
The other night, my little girl woke up in the middle of the night sick with the flu. She began to run a fever and was very lethargic. During this time, she wanted to be so close to me and kept asking for me to hold her. My heart was breaking, as she was hurting and not feeling well. As a father, it was fulfilling to be able to provide her with the comfort and nourishment that she needed. She knew that the safest place that she could be was in the presence of her father. Even though she was sick, she was safer in my presence than she would’ve been if she were well and wandering around outside in the dark during the middle of the night.
How applicable it is for the ones God has created to dwell in His presence and have a personal relationship with Him. So many are running around outside in the dark rather than being in the safe presence of the Lord Jesus Christ. Many times it takes trials, sickness, and other hard situations to bring us back to the close, intimate presence with our Father. My desire is not to wait until I’m sick, hurting, or needing anything to desire the close presence of God in my heart and life.
Psalm 16:11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
Reflection—We need God’s presence more than His power; His face more than His hand.
