Real Men

1 Corinthians 16:13-15 Watch ye, stand fast in the faith, quit you like men, be strong. 14 Let all your things be done with charity. 15 I beseech you, brethren, (ye know the house of Stephanas, that it is the firstfruits of Achaia, and that they have addicted themselves to the ministry of the saints,)
I recently submitted a devotion titled, “Be A Man”, and a pastor friend of mine, Tim Dickenson, replied with a sermon outline that he developed from the same passage. He has not put it in devotional form, but I think it is worthy to share to reinforce the message that we need real, godly men today.
- Real men are Focused, vs.13 – “watch ye” Real men are always on the alert for the enemy.
- Real men have Faith, vs.13 – they “stand fast” (Ephesians 6:13,14). Real men take a stand… for the truth of God’s Word, with God’s people, and between the enemy of God’s children.
- Real men are Fighters, vs.13 – “be strong” (Ephesians 6:10, in the Lord). Real men develop spiritual strength in Christ to stand fast.
- Real men are Fervent, vs.14 – “with charity” Real men are motivated by the example of the selfless, sacrificial love of Christ.
- Real men are Faithful, vs. 15 – They were addicted to one thing. Faithful to their Triune Master. They reject serving the three unholy trinity of masters—the world, the flesh, and Satan.
Tim told me he used this outline for a men’s group where he was asked to bring the message. In a day where true manhood is in short supply, God’s men need to have a revival in godly manhood if we are to protect our homes and project the gospel to a lost world. Real men need to lead boys to godly manhood. Real men depend on the Lord for the strength to stand. Real men encourage old men to finish well.
Reflection—Real men understand that there is only One—the God Man, Jesus Christ—that makes a real man.
