Preaching Christ

John 7:18 He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.
When a person receives the Lord Jesus Christ as his Saviour, a new life is started. The Bible gives detailed explanations of things that take place at the new birth. At that moment, an internal war begins because now there is a spiritual battle between the old man and the new man. The apostle Paul speaks about this in the book of Romans 7.
One question to consider in this spiritual war is whose glory are we seeking? Jesus speaking in John 7 makes an interesting statement regarding the message in which one is speaking. If a person is speaking, teaching, or preaching of themselves and is trying to build a following, we must beware. Our ministry is one of an ambassador for Christ not of ourselves. Our mission should be to seek the glory of the Lord and not our own glory. Our method must be one of grace seasoned with salt.
The Pharisees are a Scriptural example of those that sought their own praise more than the praise of God.
John 12:43 For they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
The challenge for us as God’s children is to remember that we are but sheep, and He is the Shepherd. Without Him, we can do nothing. When we speak to others, whether one-on-one or behind a pulpit, may we always speak with the purpose of glorifying the Lord and pointing others to His Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
John 3:30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
Reflection—Only a great man can accept his own demise with joy.
