Overwhelmed!

Psalm 61:2 From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I.
Some days are so difficult that we don’t know which way to turn. Some circumstances are so disastrous that we can’t see any light at the end of the tunnel. Some situations are so far beyond our control that we can’t imagine any way to overcome them. What can we do? Where can we find help? Who can we turn to? There is only One who can rescue us. God is our refuge, our strong tower, our hiding place.
Often, we are like the psalmist who said, “Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me” (Psalm 55:5). We are crushed by a turn of events that leaves us shaken and afraid. It could be financial misfortune, a devastating medical diagnosis, a ruined relationship, grief over the death of a loved one, a betrayal by someone we trusted, sin that grabs us and will not let go, or a series of stresses piling up one on top of another. It is just too much, and it overwhelms us!
There is One who truly cares about every event – good or bad – in our lives. He cares, and what is more, He has a plan for our lives, a way to help us overcome whatever is causing us distress. Psalm 142:3 says, “When my spirit was overwhelmed with me, then thou knewest my path.” God knows. God cares. God is waiting for you to turn to Him. Remember the chorus? “My Lord knows the way through the wilderness. All I have to do is follow.”
Trust God to show you His path for you.
Reflection—As Christians we can always rely on the Lord to show us “a way through the wilderness.”
