Our Saviour’s Hands
For Women By Women

Luke 24:40 And when he had thus spoken, he shewed them his hands and his feet.
It was April 13th, and we all gathered at my parent’s home for a fish fry. My father had just received his lifetime fishing license, which he proudly showed our daughter. She said, “You better take care of it, Papaw. It has to last you the rest of your life.” Two days later he was in a fatal crash, and we never got to say goodbye.
I was so scared to walk into the funeral home for the viewing, but God was faithful with His grace as promised. As I looked into the casket, I saw my father’s hands. So rough, so worn, by so much work through his life, to show us his love. Later I wrote a poem about those hands:
I peered into his quiet face
My world spun out of reach.
Where once was love and laughter
Death had brought a breach.
How could it be my daddy’s gone?
I could not understand.
But comfort filled my anguished heart
When I saw my daddy’s hands.
Daddy’s hands were rough and worn
From the labours they had borne.
Everyone a word of love to me.
As I grew I learned each day,
“I love you” was hard to say.
But with his hands he spoke great love to me.
Even though they now lie still
I look around and see.
My life still full of daddy’s love
His hands had touched for me.
And when I think of daddy now,
It’s his hands that come to mind
That worked so hard for me-
A greater love I’d never find.
I think of another pair of hands that showed even greater love than my daddy’s hands—the Saviour’s hands. His face set toward the cross, He stopped to touch the sick, the blind, the deaf, the demon possessed, and the children with His hands.
He suffered in indescribable ways, and then willingly laid Himself on the cross, with a crown of thorns upon His head and the nails in His hands and feet. After His resurrection, He showed those hands to His disciples. A symbol of His love to all. Then, He ascended into Heaven with those nail scared hands.
Reflection—The only manmade thing in Heaven are the nail prints in His hands.
