1Th 4:9 But as touching brotherly love ye need not that I write unto you: for ye yourselves are taught of God to love one another.
Recently, Paula and I were in Indiana, and I got to spend some time with my brother Roger. We had a great time together. We went out to eat breakfast. We got caught up on what’s going on in each other’s life, and we had a few laughs as we reminisced about the old days.
Then we spent most of the morning visiting some of his classmates from school days. I love my brother. He is my only living relative, so we are very close. We grew up in a children’s home together, and all we had was each other.
If you are a Christian you are a member of another family – God’s family. We are washed in the same Blood, heading toward the same Heaven, serving the same Saviour, and living for the same day when we shall see our Lord face to face and hear Him say, “Well done thou good and faithful servant, enter thou into the joy of the Lord.”
It is not easy to serve the Lord in this sinful and corrupt world, and we need the encouragement of our brothers and sisters in Christ if we are to walk the narrow way.
One of the greatest threats to any Christian or any Church is that of strife and divisiveness. Satan loves to divide Christian brothers and sisters with criticism, grumbling, murmuring, gossiping, selfishness, cliquishness, and ambitiousness to have one's own way.
We need each other. God actually teaches believers to love each other as brothers. God works within our hearts and stirs us to love each other.
Consider – Is there a brother or sister in the Lord, or in your family, that needs some brotherly love?
