THINE ARE WE

I Chronicles 12:18 - “Then the spirit came upon Amasai, who was chief of the captains, and he said, Thine are we, David, and on thy side, thou son of Jesse: peace, peace be unto thee, and peace be to thine helpers; for thy God helpeth thee. Then David received them, and made them captains of the band.”

The Bible provides the records of the great host of mighty men who joined those loyal to David. One such man was Amasai, and we read in the Scripture the verbal commitment Amasai made to follow David: “Thine are we, David, and on thy side.” These men of war pledged their allegiance to the son of Jesse. Amasai gave reason for his decision to serve David, “for thy God helpeth thee.” It was evident to these men that God was helping David. If the Lord was helping him, they would also help him. David believed their words were sincere and “received them,” making them leaders in his army.

It had not been an easy time for David. Faithful helpers and fellow soldiers were welcomed and useful. All of us should have those to whom we can honestly say, “Thine are we.” Most importantly, we should pledge our support and commitment to our Savior. We belong to Him and should be seriously committed to serving Him faithfully. We will never have reason to doubt the Lord’s commitment to us. He went to the cross to save our souls and has given us multiplied assurances from the Scripture that He will be with us always. We ought to give ourselves to Him.

We should also give ourselves to those the Lord has given us to serve. As Amasai said to David, we ought to be able to say to our spiritual leaders, “Thine are we.” Pastors and Church leaders are looking for those who will be seriously committed to serving the Lord. Does your pastor know that you are committed to being a helper in the ministry? Have you pledged your strength and services to being a help to them? Imagine how encouraging it must have been to David when Amasai said to him, “Thine are we.”

There is a great need in our Churches for devoted servants who are committed to following their spiritual leaders. Too many attend Churches with very little loyalty. Let your leaders know you are on their side.
