Needs of Others

Philippians 2:4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
In the book of Esther, we read of how a wicked man had a plot to kill all of the Jews throughout Persia. Esther, who was an orphaned girl, was raised by her cousin Mordecai. Mordecai was truly a man of faith and conviction. The book of Esther closes out speaking of how Mordecai sought the wealth of his people. Mordecai, being second-in-command, did not seek his own wealth and success but rather was concerned with the needs of others.
Esther 10:3 For Mordecai the Jew was next unto king Ahasuerus, and great among the Jews, and accepted of the multitude of his brethren, seeking the wealth of his people, and speaking peace to all his seed.
This characteristic was instilled in Esther as we see throughout the book. Queen Esther was willing to go to the king uninvited, which could potentially lead to her death. Because of the concern for her people, Queen Esther was willing to lay aside all of her royal blessings on behalf of the people she loved. A selfless attitude and heart are something that Mordecai not only instilled in Esther but also lived out as an example.
Jesus Christ left His home in heaven, laid aside His garments, took a towel, and became a servant through humility and obedience. Jesus Christ gave up all of His royalty to die for a world that He so loved.
Reflection—May we live our lives to serve the Saviour who laid down His life for us.
