Moving On

Genesis 24:56 And he said unto them, Hinder me not, seeing the LORD hath prospered my way; send me away that I may go to my master.
Eliezer had been led of the LORD in his mission to find a wife for Isaac. Cultural hospitalities and a family request to delay ten days, were hindering his return journey. He was very eager and excited to be on his way. So he respectfully makes his request to move on and return to Abraham.
Times like these come to each of us. A son proposes to someone’s daughter, and they move on to establish a new family unit. Genesis 2:24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. Or, a family is called to the mission field, and they take grandchildren far away. Or, a job. Or, a church. Or, a ministry.
Perhaps, there is such a “moving on” time in your life. A time in which you are being called toward God’s higher purpose in your life. It may be a spiritual moving on, and not a geographic one, that needs to take place. Now is the time for decisive action. Now is the time for you to make your move toward God’s higher purpose for you.
Eliezer’s heart wanted to move forward with the blessing in which God had prospered him. He was being well provided for and was enjoying the temporal blessings. But he had a greater motivation, a compelling movement of his soul, to delay no longer. No more lingering. No more loitering with the routine matters of life. No more procrastination in a time of prosperity. It is time to move on.
“I am resolved no longer to linger, charmed by the world’s delights. Things that are higher, things that are nobler – these have allured my sight!”
Reflection—When you decide to move on for the Lord, the world will try to delay your exit.
