Love Is a Person

1 John 4:8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.
If anyone knew God being love, it was John, the Apostle of Love. His heart was so tender towards the Lord Jesus, Who is the Incarnation of Love.
Jesus told Philip in John 14:9, “…he that hath seen Me hath seen the Father….” Christ came to reveal the warm and caring nature of God to us.
The gods of this world demand unthinkable sacrifices of blood, demanding even children to appease their lusts. Hindus are cast into a never-ending cycle of reincarnation, searching for spiritual attainment. Grecian gods leave man in dismay at the unpredictable twists and turns of life. The unloving, angry god of Islam calls for murder of any who will not bow to him.
The true and living Jehovah God certainly does judge sin. But He does so with a “broken heart.” Psalm 145:8-9 The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. 9 The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.
God does not just HAVE love for you, but He IS love toward you. As a Person, He is after your heart. He wants an abiding relationship with you. And when guilt, shame, and fear cause you to doubt that, just look into the face of the Lord Jesus as found in the Scriptures (especially John’s writings), and you will see that He has not changed.
“Never let it be thought that any sinner is beyond the reach of divine mercy so long as he is in the land of the living. I stand here to preach illimitable love, unbounded grace, to the vilest of the vile, to those who have nothing in them that can deserve consideration from God, men who ought to be swept into the bottomless pit at once if justice meted out to them their deserts.” (Spurgeon)
Reflection—May our lives reflect the loving Person of the Lord Jesus.
