Let Us Rejoice

Philippians 1:18 … Christ is preached; and I therein do rejoice, yea, and will rejoice.
Paul spoke of two groups of people who preached Christ. Some did so “out of love” (v.17), but others “from envy and strife” (v.15). They did it, Paul said, “to add affliction to my chains” (v.16). Some preachers in Rome were jealous of Paul and envious of his success. Paul had the right attitude. He was glad that, whatever the motivation, Christ was being preached. “In this,” Paul could say, “I rejoice.”
We are not in competition with other Churches; we are in competition with Satan. We should rejoice when another gospel preaching Church is experiencing revival. When folks are being saved and baptized in other Churches we should sing, “Hallelujah What a Saviour.”
If you are envious of other Churches, perhaps you have the wrong motivation. We are not seeking recognition, prestige or a pat on the back. We are seeking souls for His honor and glory and not our own. Every God-called servant of the Lord has a difficult road of service; therefore, we must support each other.
God does not require big ministries and big crowds from all of us. What He requires is faithfulness. When Paul saw people being saved he said, “I rejoice.” Let us do the same.
Reflection—Paul did not oppose false motives, but he did oppose false gospels.
