“Bee” Watchful for Your Family

1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:

Perhaps you’ve heard officials talking about the alarming decline in the honeybee population in different parts of the world. The search for a way to fix this problem has been underway for a while now.

In my own studies regarding this, I came across a rather amazing analogy.  The number one cause of this decline in (especially) managed honeybees is actually very small. A healthy hive would not normally have an issue with it except for their contact with an infested bee or hive.

It is called the Varroa Mite or the Varroa Destructor. Entire hives have been decimated by this tiny parasite.

A healthy bee may come into contact with another hive infested with these destructors and inadvertently “brush wings” with another bee that has these mites. The healthy bee then travels home to its hive where the mites will many times detach from the adult bee, and move into the egg cells of the bee brood. The mites firm attach to the babies before they even emerge from their cells.

The bees had no idea that they were infecting the next generation.

Isn’t this just like the Christian family? We brush up against the world, and many times don’t realize what we are bringing home with us. The destructor of this world, Satan, is after us to be sure, but even more so, he is after the next generation. He wants nothing more than the total destruction of the Christian home and family.

It would be wise for Christian parents to take inventory of where they have been lately – who they have been around – what they have been listening to – what they have allowed into the home.

Reflection—Worldly destructors inadvertently brought into our homes can attach themselves onto our children.
