Identity

1 Corinthians 1:30 But of him are ye in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption:
We’ve worked with many men in rehab who have an “identity crisis.” Most see themselves as a hopeless addict for life. In preaching the Truth to them, some are saved and learn of the believer’s identity in Christ. In some ways, what you believe you are, you are—and it takes faith in Truth to escape the lies.
Our first birth-identity made us a sinner. It is why we have problems, including addictions, and why we need the Lord. Though we had no choice in that identity, we need to admit to God our true nature and sin. To be born again provides us with another identity. When we believe on Jesus as Lord and Saviour, we are now identified in an entirely different way.
Many are convinced that they are defined by what they feel. If so, then feelings become the basis of what is believed. It is better to trust God’s Word. God tells us that the completed work of Jesus determines the identity of the saved. If saved, we are His children, even on days when we may feel differently.
Another lie of Satan is that we are victims of what has been done to us. Some have been victimized by terrible verbal, emotional, mental, and sexual abuse, or other awful things. The good news is that Jesus wants to heal so that your identity is not one as a victim but as a victor. (Rom 8:37)
Some claim to be broken beyond repair, and so they live in spiritual defeat. They say things like, “I’m hurting…messed up…struggling…defeated… stuck in my sin habit….” You may have issues but be careful about taking on the identity of being a broken person.
Colossians 2:10 And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
Reflection—Invest some time renouncing Satan’s lies. Believe the Truth. Step into the real you!
