I Sought The Lord

Psalm 34:4 I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears.
On January 8th, my wife and I welcomed a new baby into our family. We wanted to wait and be surprised for the gender and were so excited to hear the cry of a precious baby girl.
Previously, we had lost a little girl to a miscarriage at 19 weeks and a son who passed away at birth. We also have a healthy two-year-old. This fourth pregnancy was very scary due to the past trauma. As I was waiting to go in the operating room for the delivery, I read Psalm chapter 34. As I read verse 4, I began to cry. Many emotions and fears were all around with the excitement of a new baby about to be born. Verse 4 gives us a blueprint that aligns with Matthew 7:7 “Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:”
These verses layout clear instructions that we are to first seek the Lord. Psalm 34:4 begins by saying, “I sought the LORD.” The verse doesn’t declare that we are to seek the benefits of what the Lord provides but rather to seek HIM. Hebrews 11:6 says “But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.”
One issue with the prosperity gospel (name it; claim it) is that it claims the benefits and results without the intimacy of seeking the Saviour. The purpose is a relationship, not a result. Results are a product of the relationship. Our heart’s desire must be to first seek Him.
I praise the Lord for His blessings and for a safe birth with a healthy family. I thank the Lord for Who He is.
Reflection—May we all together observe Psalm 34:3, “O magnify the LORD with me, and let us exalt his name together.”
