Helping The Helpless

Isaiah 41:10 Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
There is a coined phrase, “God helps those who help themselves.” Whoever said it may have been attempting to motivate someone to get with the program. Whatever the case, it is a blatantly false statement.
The Truth of Scripture is that God helps the helpless. Our hearts are regularly torn and burdened for children who are so wickedly abused in this world – sometimes by those who are supposed to love and help them. So many of the children in the Lighthouse Homes come to us having been mistreated and subjected to grievous situations. Helpless children.
Recently, one of our Homes has received some “mountain children.” They worked on a farm and only received one meager meal daily. Some have been abused. How blessed they are now to have a safe home with plenty of food and among people who truly love them.
They are learning that the True Helper is the Lord Jesus Himself. He helps the helpless.
The good news is that God has all the power and resources necessary. He is perfectly willing to release them to us, both spiritually and materially. He saves us from the pits of this world, and He puts our feet on the solid rock of truth through the Lord Jesus.
Even a proud and self-sufficient person must admit just how helpless he is without the Lord. And if in this life, when he humbles himself before the Lord, he will see just how much God loves him and can help him. Jesus is not interested in helping us do our own thing, but He has wonderful plans for those who love and trust Him.
Reflection—God helps those who need His help, want His help, and ask for His help.
