God in the Midst
For Women By Women

Psalm 46:5 God is in the midst of her; she shall not be moved: God shall help her, and that right early.
The “her” and “she” mentioned in the above verse caught my attention. “Ah ha!” I thought. “This is a verse about women.” But I discovered that these two words referred to the City of God (or Jerusalem) mentioned in the previous verse. The City of God symbolizes the nation of Israel and its divine protection. God’s enduring strength and protection for His chosen city/people/state assure that they won’t be moved by earthly turmoil.
This is a picture of the Holy Spirit in the lives of New Testament Christians. It offers comfort and stability. It becomes a personal promise of God to believers giving them strength and help at the time needed.
This verse assures believers of God’s constant indwelling presence and help (“God is in the midst of her”). They are secure, protected and will not be overcome by life’s chaos or trials. Though facing trouble, believers remain unshaken and upheld by God (“she shall not be moved”). God’s help is always available and comes at the perfect moment (“God shall help her, and that right early”). His assistance arrives “right on time.”
While not originally about women, the spiritual truth here allows for powerful personal application. This makes it a cherished verse for women seeking reassurance. This verse offers comfort and confidence that God’s presence ensures His people’s stability and timely rescue in adversity.
Reflection—God is always with you as your refuge, strength, and ever-present help.
