Galatians 6:14 But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world is crucified unto me, and I unto the world.
When we stand before the Cross of Calvary and think of all that happened there, we can respond only with the deepest humility. Jesus Christ paid the full price for our redemption when He died in our place. Our family name, our good works, our self-righteousness – they all drop away before that blood-stained cross. Our pride is gone, and we bow in humility before the cross of Christ.
Faith Baptist Church in LaGrange, GA has a wonderful custom. Sitting on the platform right in front of the cross shaped pulpit is a tall clear plastic vase that is filled with red, plastic beads. When a person comes to receive Christ as Savior, that person is given one of the red beads as a reminder of the day that they received Christ as Savior and also to remind them of what it cost to purchase their redemption—the Blood of Christ.
When we realize that Jesus truly paid it all, and we understand our total inability to save ourselves, then we can say with the apostle Paul, “But God forbid that I should glory, save in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Reflection—Paul’s glory and delight was not in a piece of wood but in the atoning work of Christ on the cross.
