Gift Of God

Romans 6:23 … the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
The nature of a gift is that the receiver of the gift now possesses it. When I personally give a tool set to another man, the ownership of the tools is transferred to the receiver. If I come back later and want to take those tools back, then I didn’t really gift them to him. In my days of youth, we would call such a person an Indian-giver. (I am part Creek, so no disrespect intended.)
So, in thinking about these things, I realized that when God gives Eternal Life to one who receives the Lord Jesus, He will never take it back. It becomes the eternal gift of the recipient.
I think David got this. When he began Psalm 23, he emphasized his personal relationship with the Eternal Lord when he said, “The LORD is MY Shepherd.” Along with David, we should be able with confidence to make the same humble declaration of our relationship with Jesus. He is MY Saviour, Shepherd, and Sovereign. Blessed be the LORD God of heaven and earth for His unspeakable Gift! (2 Cor 9:15)
The Apostle John also got this. He stated very strongly that we can KNOW that we have eternal life (1 John 5:13). We know it because God has offered it as a gift, and we have received it as our very own. And the blessed Father will not take it back!
Some may accuse you of arrogance or self-righteousness when you claim to know that you are saved. The truth is, it pleases God when we believe that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)
Reflection—Jesus knows His sheep as His sheep may know Him.
