2 Corinthians 13:11 Finally, brethren, farewell. Be perfect, be of good comfort, be of one mind, live in peace; and the God of love and peace shall be with you.
Paul’s earthly ministry was drawing to a close. So, in his final letter to the church in Corinth, he reminds them about some of the wisdom he had imparted to them and offered them comfort for the coming days.
“Be perfect.” – Live your life so others see Christ. (Matt 5:16)
“Be of good comfort.” – Remember, true comfort comes from God. (2 Cor 1:3-4)
“Be of one mind.” – Have the mind of Christ. (Phil 2:6)
“Live in peace.” – Do your best to be at peace with all men. (Romans 12:17)
“And the God of love and peace shall be with you.” – God’s presence is key. (Matt 28:20)
Then he bids them farewell.
For the “brethren,” there is never a goodbye; it’s always “see you later.” Our lives here are just a blip on the radar, and then we are in eternity. Therefore, we should rejoice and be glad and take comfort in knowing — “absent from the body” is “present with the Lord.”
Today, may we let Paul’s final words to the church in Corinth make a lasting impression on how we live our lives, with the light of eternity in our eyes.
Reflection—Parting sorrow awakens joyful anticipation in knowing it is but for a season.
