Faith Building Moments

2 Kings 8:1-2 Then spake Elisha unto the woman, whose son he had restored to life, saying, Arise, and go thou and thine household, and sojourn wheresoever thou canst sojourn: for the LORD hath called for a famine; and it shall also come upon the land seven years. 2 And the woman arose, and did after the saying of the man of God: and she went with her household, and sojourned in the land of the Philistines seven years.
Everyone needs faith building moments in their life. The Shunammite woman needed one because of the famine that drove her to a foreign land. Her future was bleak because of the financial situation her family was facing. However, she had a good foundation for such a moment because of what had happened in chapter four. Elisha had told her God would give her a child, and God did. But when the child grew sick and died, God intervened again, and Elisha rushed back home and stretched himself over the child and life was restored.
It is no wonder that the prophet told her to leave the land and sojourn elsewhere for seven years, until the coming famine would be over. By the time she returned home to Israel, her family land had passed to another. So, she goes to the king to ask for her land back to have a place for her family to live. On the day she enters the throne room, the servant of Elisha had been called in to tell the king stories about the great miracles of the prophet.
God’s timing is impeccable, for just as he was telling the story of the boy Elisha had raised from the dead, in walks the Shunammite woman to ask for her land. “And Gehazi said, My lord, O king, this is the woman, and this is her son, whom Elisha restored to life.”
Reflection—Faith building moments are in short supply today. But when you need one, remember, God’s timing is impeccable!
