Psalm 34:18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart….
People have described being brokenhearted as, “burdened with great sorrow, grief, or disappointment,” “extremely unhappy about the failure or end of something,” “so profoundly sad that it feels like a physical pain in your chest.”
There are many verses in the Bible that speak of a broken heart or being brokenhearted. Has something broken your heart? You may be crushed by devastating grief, a wayward child, a health crisis, financial difficulties, a shattered relationship, some family catastrophe. God is aware of your situation and wants you to know He has a purpose for it. Brokenness is difficult, but God often speaks the loudest during these times.
Our faith grows during times of brokenness when we depend on the promises of God completely. We may feel shattered, lost, or abandoned, but God is ALWAYS there. It’s easy to feel weak and helpless when we go through a time of brokenness. Our struggles can lead us to rely on God as never before.
We may be wrestling with internal battles or facing external challenges. God will not abandon us in these struggles. He hears our cries and understands our heartaches. God can transform us during these challenging times, changing us into what He created us to be. Brokenness can teach us grace, patience, and resilience.
There is always hope. God can turn our sorrow into joy and our misery into anticipation for what He will do next. His plans for us are filled with good. Even in brokenness there is a path that leads to hope. Each of us must navigate our own journey as we lean on God through the painful times of brokenness. Trust Him to bring you through with renewed joy.
Reflection—Psalm 147:3 He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.
