Blessed Are the Peacemakers

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.
It was a beautiful Easter morning. We gathered the children for our annual picture. The birds were singing, the sun was shining, and we had a wonderful time creating memories of this moment of our sweet family.
Have you had this kind of moment as well?
I wish I could say this was our family! In reality, it was early, cold, the mosquitos were biting the children. They were cranky which made us parents cranky and ready to have this moment over! The crowning moment came after all the pictures were taken and everyone was released from their torture, to find our camera never had any film in it! That became a whole different level of frustration!
Difficulty in life is inevitable in families and in churches. Even mature Christians don’t always disagree agreeably. Some would read the verse, “Where two or three are gathered together in my name, there will be disagreement!”
If left unchecked, this can bring harm to many. Winning the argument is never more important than protecting the body or losing the audience. Tempers flare, words are spoken that cannot be taken back, feelings are hurt, leading to anger and bitterness. Unforgiveness sets in to damage the whole, in families and in churches.
There needs to be a calm person to help build a bridge to lead each over to the other.
Proverbs 15:18 A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife.
Jesus said blessed are the peacemakers; helpers to restore one another. There will always be differences of opinions, but even those differences can be discussed with cool heads and kind words. Again, Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers…”
It has been said,
“To live above with saints above, that will be glory!
To live below with those we know, that’s a different story!”
Reflection—Rejoice not in being right, but that your name is written down in the book of life!
