Amazing
By Steve Clark
Amazement is defined as, “a strong feeling of astonishment or wonder.” There are some things in this life that absolutely amaze me. I am still amazed every time I look at my kids and realize that my blood runs through their veins. I am amazed at the unconditional love that I possess for them and they for me. I am amazed at how after nearly 20 years, my wife still loves, supports me. (I am also amazed at how I can rack up brownie points with her for saying things like that!!) That is just a few of the things that still amaze me!
There are some things that amaze me still that amazed me 20 years ago—like God’s love! Look at verses 3-4. I am thankful for parents, children, a spouse, and church members who possess love for me! It is amazing how your family knows you better than anyone else and loves you anyway! And God knows more about you than anyone. He knows your actions, your thoughts, what you have done, what you are going to do—and knowing all this, He loves you anyway! That is AMAZING!
In verse 3, Paul gives a picture of the “Old man”… who we were before salvation. It’s not a pretty picture. There are some hard words used to describe us! But Paul says in verse 4 that in spite of who we were, God chose to love us!
That is amazing! God knows us, yet He loved us enough to send His only begotten Son to make a way for us to one day be with Him!
Reflection—When was the last time you just sat and thought about how amazing God is?
