Abhor That Which is Evil

Romans 12:9 Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
We live in a dark world where the system continually moves farther and farther away from the light of God’s Word.
In my lifetime, I have noticed an increasing influence to pull families away from church services. The life of sports and competition in this generation seems to be growing each day. While sports and extra extracurricular activities are not bad in themselves, the lustful desires of winning seem to be pulling a generation away from the things that matter most. Lustful desires lead to obtaining unaffordable items, thus driving credit card debts leading to financial stress in the homes of many Christians.
The heart behind this observation is not to judge or condemn but rather bring attention to the snares this dark world has set out for God’s children. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 2:4, “No man that warreth entangleth himself with the affairs of this life; that he may please him who hath chosen him to be a soldier.”
We must be vigilant, knowing that Satan is seeking whom he may devour. The Bible is a light that shines in a dark place and is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. The more we are in God’s Word, the more light we will have to see through this dark evil world. The love for God will work in our hearts to avoid evil while we cleave to that which is good.
May God’s Spirit work in our lives to draw us closer to Him and shed light in this dark world.
Psalm 34:14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it.
Reflection—Christians should hate what God hates (evil) and love what God loves (good).
