A Spiritual House

1 Peter 2:4-5 To whom coming, as unto a living stone, disallowed indeed of men, but chosen of God, and precious, 5 Ye also, as lively stones, are built up a spiritual house, an holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices, acceptable to God by Jesus Christ.
The Lord Jesus is the Living Stone, and He’s the chief Cornerstone. But the world treated Him like common dirt. He was disallowed, not approved, rejected! The nation of Israel did not receive Him, the nations of the Gentiles have not received Him, and many individual people you know and love have not received Him. They all disallow Him!
But however rejected Jesus is in this world, He is always the same. No amount of ill treatment by anyone changes Him or His purposes and goals. He is chosen, precious, elect (v.6), and He will accomplish His will in the end.
As the Lord is, so are believers. We, too, are living stones that are cut out of the world to fit within the church. When Solomon’s Temple was under construction, every stone had to be measured and cut out within the quarry. There was no cutting and hammering allowed on Temple Mount. Only stones previously cut to precision were allowed to be a part of the Temple. They were transported from the quarry, and then perfectly placed in the structure.
So it is with us. We are born as dead stones of the earth. By the grace of God, when we are born again, we become living stones. We are cut out of the world and shaped to precision to fit within the spiritual structure as the Lord desires. This is the Lord’s House, and each stone has a perfect function within it.
A true church of the Lord is a spiritual house. It HAS organization, but it IS a spiritual organism.
Reflection—Where do you fit in? To deny that you have a place is to deny that you’re a living stone.
